It's a known scam page/number with a fake 'popup' - just hang up the phone and CTRL+ALT+DEL to close your browser. It's just some Javascript popups, nothing more.

Report it to Scamwatch/ACCC.

The computer started blaring that we had been infected and that our details were being sent to hackers. They gave a number to call.
Thanks so much to the people who post on these pages. It's so helpful and reassuring.

1800 835 286 is a nasty call centre base in India that pretends to be working as or for Microsoft

support team. They are fake, fake, fake. Those scums are installing malvares and viruses from popups

or with bundles software as Adobe Flash. Your internet browser suddenly freeze and your all computer

is frozen. Best way is to shut your computer down ( by pressing power button for 20 seconds or more unplug it) Restart with a clean browser cache and a run of a antivirus if you have one. Take to someone if you are not reassured or still in distress.

This scam popped up on my laptop preventing me from doing anything unless i called the number, i decided to call it only for my new phone telling me the number is a known 'scam' number (thank you samsung note7) but i went a head with the call anyway only for the person on the other end to tell me that hackers have my information ect and it will cost me $300USD to make everything safe and let them do their thing..... pffft.... hung up and had a laugh.
If anybody comes across this and cant close the window just hold down, ctrl+ alt+ delete (at the same time), choose task manager (a small window will pop up) then click on the program and click 'end task'.

We just got played. Wish my partner had googled this number before phoning them!! He downloaded their software and gave them remote access to our computer. So I am completely freaking out!!! We are now off the phone to them and removing the download. Fingers crossed this is enough

Pop up box told me my computer had a virus and that I had to call this number within 5mins to prevent further damage from happening. I rang them and it's a total scam trying to benefit from people who don't understand computers very well. They wanted $499 including taxes for them to install Microsoft Security and have a technician access my computer remotely to 'fix' the errors and viruses in my computer. They wanted my full name, address, email, credit card and date of birth in order to do this. Hmmmm :-/

Same message. Computer infected with a virus. Do not turn off computer. Call this number. Which I did and spoke to Eva from India. Showed me pages saying I had 45 devices connected to my network and 3 failed attempts and my firewall was damaged. Offered to repair firewall, get rid f infections and viruses for a one time fee of USD$499. Gut feel was NO! Spoke to them over an hour and they dropped the price to USD$399.(Can't imagine Microsoft would do that if they were real) Provided false credit card details and in the meantime googled this number to find this site. Lucky I went with my gut.

This is phone number is a SCAM and is 'ransomware' - or at least an attempt at RANSOMWARE. It uses a fake MICROSOFT webpage (or other trusted website) as its 'front' to make it look genuine. They also include on the popup warning the name of a real trojan virus to help try and convince unsuspecting users. e.g. Win32.vbrat. When users search this virus it does in fact exist BUT your PC is not infected. The use of the name of the virus is purely to trick you. This warning, pop-up message (+ VOICE message) will lock your browser and scare users into ringing the 1800 835 286 number and pay money to disinfect your computer. DO NOT DO THIS - at this stage you are not infected, but if you ring the number they will request access to your computer and payment to 'FIX' your computer. I repeat DO NOT do this. If you call them and give them access then this is when they will access you faceboook, photos, bank details etc. It is best to simply shut down your PC and then restart it. You are free to use your computer and ready to go. Nothing has infact happened other than just a scare. However, for users who are still worried by this fake ransomware, please update your security software and do a complete scan of your Computer or ask some trusted person to do this for you.. Cheers everyone. Please can you report the phone number and this RANSOMWARE TROJAN to SCAMWATCH AUSTRALIA at Scamwatch ACCC Infocentre on 1300 795 995 or online at scamwatch.gov.au

This message is a scam. Ignore it. If you contact the number they will try to remotely operate your computer with personal information given and then steal your personal data. The message pops up on Mac as well as Windows. The only way to remove it is to force quit safari (on Mac) If it pops up again it is because Mac is re-opening the same window. You need to force quit a second time and then re-open safari. Safari will ask if you want to re-open the previous windows. Tick No, or adjust your settings to not remember previous windows.

Not a real computer technician. Saw this number on a phishing attempt. Do not call this number. Do not answer this number. Just ignore it and go about your life.

Comes up saying it is windows and if you turn the computer off it will shut it down for good, I rang the number and it went through to India, they wanted my name and date of birth, (I gave false) and then they told me they needed to operate my computerd remotely, I said I did not trust him and he said if I wanted a technician it would cost me $400 so I told him to shove it, the code they told me to quote is 638D3
